Lactose-free diet is designed primarily for people with lactose intolerance, in which the body does not digest sugar in milk. Lactose intolerance is a digestive disorder and is one of the most common food intolerances in humans. The condition is caused by a shortage of gut enzyme that digests lactose.
In lactose-free diet, products containing lactose, including its concealed form, have been removed.
In order to maintain full balance, and maintain a healthy, balanced diet that provides all the essential nutrients, they have been replaced by naturally lactose-free products such as coconut milk, soy milk, tofu, lactose-free milk and rice milk. What's more, ripened hard cheeses such as cheddar, gouda or parmesan can be consumed, as they contain virtually no lactose. In this diet, calcium is derived from such products as kale, wheat bran and cereals, especially barley and buckwheat.
The diet includes five perfectly balanced meals to be eaten every 3 hours.
